”1976 Istanbul 2005” In January 1976 my parents went on a weeks vacation to Istanbul in Turkey. Left from their trip is the 79 slides my mother Marianne Degerman took during the trip. In September 2005 I went to Istanbul to look for the places my parents had been to, to take the same photographs my mother took 30 years ago.

By talking to people I met in the streets of Istanbul and by showing them my mothers photographs I managed to find 45 of the photographed spots during 10 days of work. I thought the trip was my parents honeymoon until they saw the work for the first time and then told me they didn’t get married until 1979.

My parents has never been back to Istanbul since 1976 but my mothers old camera have now been there twice.

The work is to be shown on two synchronized slide-projectors, the old and the new image visible at the same time. Here you se my mothers image from 1976 at the top and my from 2005 underneath it.
